Mary and Max
Today I’m going to talk about a movie I saw a years ago, this funny Australian animation, presented s many festivals you can imagine, like Sundance Festival, Tokio, Berlin has received a lot of good criticism maybe because is made in stop motion with plasticine characters very expressive.
The story is about a curious and singular friendship between two people through letters.
The female protagonist Is Mary a little fat girl of 8 years old, how lives in Melbourne Australia, she feels really alone, she don’t have friends and her family is a mess. One day when she was accompanying her mother she found a phone book and she choose a random number, she wrote a letter with intentions to know how babies get born at united states because in her country babies came from the bottom of bear glass.
The choose one was Max Hotovitz a man of 40 years old, very fat who lives in New York and he suffer of Asperger the reason why he doesn’t had friends neither, he doesn’t interacts with the rest of people because he has trouble to understand the society.
In spite of their difference in age both feels identified in one thing: they don’t have friends and need someone to trust so their friendship start to grow, the time has passed and Mary now is an adult woman who decided to study Asperger syndrome, she found a solution to her friend problem but this causes a break in their friendship, Max feels hurt by Mary, they lost contact for a while. But Mary save some money y she travels to visit him to end this story with a tear in your face.
